Education
Programs
The Public Awareness Programme works to encourage a life-long positive
attitude towards our national heritage.
Using awesome teaching skills, lots of enthusiasm and a huge dose of patience
our School Presentations component seeks to target children from age four and
up. Covering topics ranging from coral reefs, mangroves, reptiles, mammals and
many more students are taught the importance of conservation. Each presentation
is tailored to the age group to ensure the optimal learning of each group. By
using “Our Land, Our Sea, Our People” Modules, teachers are more familiar with
the basic topics on environmental education in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Our ever so popular “Eco Echoes” environmental booklet continues to be
published on a quarterly basis. Its articles are designed to motivate students
by using crossword puzzles, recipes, colouring, map work, craft work and
competitions. With the continued support of Graceway IGA, we are able to
distribute these booklets to schools throughout the Turks and Caicos.
The Junior Membership Programme also continues to make strides. We now have
over 100 members throughout the schools in the TCI. All Junior Members receive
Eco Echoes quarterly a discount on Trust products and on registration for Summer
Camp. Environmental summer camp (annual) has become a tradition in
Providenciales, camp is also held in Grand Turk. Field trips are an essential
part of this camp, where members learn about historic buildings and other
heritage sites.
Our library facilities help students with homework assignments and research
work. The Trust produces a wide variety of interpretative literature, including
brochures on Little Water Cay, Cheshire Hall, Wade’s Green and the Trust itself,
along with iguana and butterfly cards.

The Trust works closely with the Tourist Board in disseminating information and
supports the TCI Host Programme. We are pleased with our new relationship with
the Taxi Association as well as with other Taxi drivers, who have been very
cooperative and supportive, particularly in the new management of the Cheshire
Hall Plantation Historic Site.
We look forward to establishing other links with the various institutions
within the Turks & Caicos Islands through our Public Awareness Programme.
